Learning outcomes
The corse provides to students knowledge about: the role od forensic expert for the Judicial Authorithy, the law on DNA database, on drug abuse, on informed consent, on confidentuiality, and professional liability.
The students gain knowledge on forensic genetics, forensic toxicology and forensic pathology.
The integrated knowledge and experience will applied to violent crimes and sexual violence in particularly.
Course contents
Scientific evidence, weight of evidence in Court, expert witness.
Crime scene investigation, diagnosis of biological fluids, DNA profiling. Analysis of lineage markers: mitochondrial DNA, Y chromosome and X chromosome.
Statistical interpretation of DNA match.
DNA database for criminal purpose.
Forensic pharmacogenetics.
Sexual violence investigation.
Informed consent and professional confidentiality.
The toxicological section includes the anlysis of illecit drugs, alcohol and psicoattive substances in the different biological fluids.
