Learning outcomes

At the end of the lab, the student is able to: - use diagnostic tools to make a quantitative and qualitative assessment of cognitive disorders and left for a possible rehabilitation treatment - identifying the problem of methods and evaluation techniques and rehabilitation of existing, - communicate with experts and non-experts their conclusions, both on the evaluation of behavior and cognitive function, and proposals for measures that each situation requires - to deepen and update their knowledge independently.

Course contents

Laboratory lessons will be held in the first semester, from September to November, divided between Prof.ssa Di Santantonio and Prof.ssa Ladavas. During the lessons of the laboratory, will be presented in detail the major cognitive and emotional disturbances resulting from the injury in adults and the main diagnostic tools. The main purpose is to give students the theoretical and methodological tools necessary to the patient and his family. It will also provide tips and examples of clinical rehabilitation cognitive and behavioral disorders resulting from acquired brain injury.

Introduction to the Clinical Neuropsychology; The neuropsychological examination; Neuropsychology of memory; Neuropsychology of attention; Agnosia; The visual-spatial disorder; Anosognosia; The disorder of executive functions; The dementia; The emotional and psychiatric disorders associated with neuropsychological disorders.

Notes of lectures, scientific publications in Italian and English provided to students as a support to the arguments presented during the lessons

Teaching methods

Frontal lectures with Power Point slides and practical exercises by dividing students into small groups. Clinical cases and role-playing situations will be presented.

Assessment methods

 

Attendance at lectures is MANDATORY.

Verification of learning will be carried out through a written test on a clinical case with respect to the topics presented during the lessons.The purpose of this method of detection is to allow students to practice the topics and methods learned during the workshops.

The student is required to complete the online registration (Almaesami) within the terms in order to be admitted to the exam (Within one week of the examination date). In the case of technical problems the student is required to promptly contact the Segreteria Studenti and email prof. Ladavas (within the terms) who will consider the request and decide about the admission.

Teaching tools

In addition to introductory lectures, will be presented to the students the main tests used for diagnosis and rehabilitation in Neuropsychology and videos of neuropsychological patients.
