Learning outcomes
The course aims at providing the students with the basic tools and methodology necessary to translate simple texts of different types from Italian into Russian. At the end of the course the students should be able to apply the most appropriate translation strategies in order to render the content and the pragmatics of the source texts into the target language.
Course contents
The course aims at providing the students with the basic techniques and strategies in order to be able to produce an adequate russian translation of simple italian texts.
In addition to thorough practicing of the morfologic and sintactic structures studied al the Grammar course in the first term, a special attention will be paid to the following arguments:
- trasliteration of proper names with the russian alphabet
- word order
- translation of specific cultural terms
- use of bi- and monolingual dictionaries, as well as of the other translation tools
During the course various texts of general culture of Italy will be translated. The texts will cover different themes like places and events of touristic interest, history, traditions, food, modern culture, etc.
The texts will be provided during the course in electronic format. The translations will be prepaired individually by the students and, afterwards, will be analysed and commented in class.

Lectures, interactive workshops, seminars with the use of Internet.
Assessment methods
Final exam: written translation of a text of circa 150 words with the use of a bilingual dictionary.
At the end of the course students will have a possibility to do a mock-exam, which will not influence the final marks.
