Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has knowledge and understanding of the general principles of manual therapy. The student is able to perform a thorough assessment, design a treatment and choose the more indicated manual therapy techniques.

Course contents

THE ORTHOPAEDIC MANUAL/MANIPULATIVE THERAPY: Therapeutic objectives in Manual Therapy on impairment, disability and social participation. The choice of techniques for joints, ligaments, muscles and Nervous System. The choice of the parameters of each manual tehcnique. The concept of movement's degree according to J. Maitland and F. Kaltenborn, and the progression of forces. Traction, translation, mobilization, manipulation: physiological effects, techniques, characteristics, precautions. The construction of a therapeutic session. The conservative treatment of neck pain and low back pain.

MIOFASCIAL TECHNIQUE: Miofascial release using the so-called “Pompage” technique: theoretical basis and treatment techniques. The practical application of " Pompage" technique.
