Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student knows and is able to apply the basic tools of mathematical analysis of real functions of one real variable, of matrix algebra and of linear algebra. In particular, the srtudent is able to: - compute limits, derivatives, and Taylor polynomials of a function; study the graph of a function; compute integrals and generalized integrals of a function; solve linear systems by using vectors and matrices; recognize linearly independent sets and subspaces; compute inner products, norms, and orthogonal projections; diagonalize square matrices.
Course contents
- Real numbers.
- Sequences of real numbers; limits.
- Real functions of one real variable; limits, continuity; derivatives and their applications; integrals.
- Vector space R^n; linear systems; subspaces; linear independence; linear transformations.
- Matrix algebra; determinants; eigenvectors and eigenvalues.
- Euclidean vector space R^n.

Teaching methods
Classroom lectures.
Assessment methods
The exam consists of a written test and an oral test. The written test consists of some exercises; during the written test students are not allowed to use books or notes. The aim of the oral exam is to verify the understanding of the contents and the ability to express them correctly. The final grade is established on the base of an overall judgement on the oral and written tests.
