Learning outcomes

            The techniques of all individual sports are based on some fundamental motor skills, and among them a lot can be found in track and field specialties.
            At the end of the course students should be able to navigate the many different disciplines of individual sports, identify the special characteristics and define the main determinants of performance. They must also demonstrate to know the rules, equipment, technical and tactical aspects for beginners about track and field events and teaching principles, as well as providing methods of basic training.

Course contents

Definitions and classifications of sports.
•    Performance models.
•    Crucial Concepts to establish a model of performance.
•    Open and Closed skill Sports.
•    Relationships of muscle strength and power with individual sports. Sports based on maximum strength and power.
•    Weight lifting techniques and injury prevention.
•    Muscle power and sprinting, jumping, throwing.
•    Analysis of some Technical and Composition, Precision, Endurance,  Situational and Combined Sports among individuals.
•   Athletics and gymnastics: technique teaching, rules.
•  Theory about one additional sport, among Sailing, Judo or Roller skating.

Teaching methods

The course includes classroom lectures and laboratory exercises.
Power-point presentations will be available via the internet.

Assessment methods

Written and Oral examination to assess the learning of the various aspects of the subject and evaluate the critical capacity of students.

The laboratory exercise evaluation will be considered for the final score, in addition to the mentioned written and oral examination.
