Course contents
Starting from the academic year 2014-2015 this course will be an elective one for students enrolled in the following degree programmes: Public Communication and Politics, Administration and Organization, International Relations.
There will be a general introduction to the following topics:
1) Individual, interdependent and collective decisions
2) The rational choice model
3) Bounded rationality
4) Strategic interaction
5) Collective action dilemmas: coordination and cooperation
6) Negotiation
7) Social choice theory
8) Voting methods
9) Agenda setting
10) Deliberation
These topics will be analyzed in more detail through specific readings and case studies in the second part of the course.

Students may read some chapters of the following textbook:
Shepsle K. and M. Boncek, Analyzing politics, New York, Norton, 2010 (second edition).
A reading list will be given at the beginning of the course.
Teaching methods
This course is organized as a seminar. The basic format will be classroom lectures and student presentations.
Assessment methods
The assessment is based on the following elements:
- active participation (30%)
- presentation of a paper (30%)
- writing a paper of approximately 15 pages about a topic of interest (40%) to be handed in ten days before the exam.
