Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student knows the theoretical preliminary assumptions and  methodological criteria of Ergo-ophthalmology and Occupational Ophthalmology. This knowledge is of fundamental importance for the settlement of occupational visual requirements, and the prevention and treatment of occupational diseases in the world of work

Course contents

Occupational environment and vision. Analysis and quantification of "the near work load". The near vision complex: accommodation and convergence required by the near work. The effects of luminance and luminance ratios in the "occupational visual field". Halide lamps and the effects of blue light on the retinal pigmented epithelium. Indoor microbial pollution and Computed Assisted Design (CAD) work. Asthenopia and visual discomfort in close work. Role of heterophoria, refractive errors, and dry eye on the visual discomfort in close work.
