11781 - Linear Algebra

Academic Year 2014/2015

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Rimini
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in FINANCE, INSURANCE AND BUSINESS (cod. 8053)

Learning outcomes

The student will be acquainted with the basics of linear algebra and matrix algebra. In particular, he will be able to solve linear systems by using vectors and matrices, to recognize linear independent sets and subspaces, to compute scalar products, norms, orthogonal projections, and to diagonalize square matrices.

Course contents

Systems of linear equations. The algebra of matrices; determinants; eigenvectors and eigenvalues. Vector space R^n; subspaces, linear independence. Euclidean vector space R^n; orthogonal projections; least squares solutions of a linear system.

Assessment methods

Algebra Lineare and Analisi Matematica are the two parts of Matematica (corso integrato).
The exam of Matematica consists of a written test and an oral test.
The written test consists of some exercises about the two parts of the corso integrato. During the written test students are not allowed to use notes or books. The aim of the oral test is to verify students' understanding of the concepts of the two parts of the corso integrato  and their ability to express these concepts correctly.

The final grade is established on the base of an overall judgement on the oral and written tests.
