Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student should be able to identify insects and demonstrate detailed knowledge of their morphology, life cycle, and geographical distribution, with a view of conservation of endangered species or prevention and control of some pests.

Course contents

Hexapoda Morphology, Anatomy, Phisiology. Taxonomy and Life Cycle of the main groups of Hexapoda: Protura  Collembola, Diplura, Tisanura, Ephemeroptera, Odonata, Blattodea, Mantodea, Isoptera, Plecoptera, Embioptera, Dermaptera, Phasmida, Ortoptera, Psocoptera, Mallophaga, Anoplura, Thysanoptera, Hemiptera, Neuroptera, Mecoptera, Trichoptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera, Aphaniptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera.

Teaching methods

The course consists of lectures and labs for observation on animal samples.

Assessment methods

Students will be assessed by a final oral examination.

Students will be required to answer some questions on 4 topics.

The oral examination also includes the identification of three animal samples.

 

Teaching tools

PC, video projector, preserved specimens of the entomological collection.
