Learning outcomes
At the end of the Course the student will have knowledge of the main processes involved in the morphodynmics of coast and continebtal shelf, and interdisciplinary issues related to the management of the coastal strip. Able to apply the logical tools and approaches, both regulatory and technical applications required for the analysis and integrated management of coastal- marine areas.
Course contents
Processes and elements of the continental shelf and coastal geomorphology; their evolution in time and space. Responses of marine and coastal systems with respect to climate changes in the recent geological past; probabilistic scenarios for the next century. Main survey systems useful for the physical- geometric characterization of the marine and coastal environment (electro-acoustic and seismic surveys, high-resolution sampling of the seabed, DEM analysis, etc.). Key approaches and logic required by the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) in a perspective of sustainable development. Integration of Geo-Biodiversity, socio-economic and cultural development. The new trends in the field of EU integration and management of the marine and coastal environment.
