28848 - Telecommunications Systems T-1

Academic Year 2014/2015

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (cod. 0923)

Course contents

The course aims at laying the foundation for the design and characterization of modern digital wireless communication systems.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to dimension a wireless link. For example, he/she will be able to evaluate the wireless system error rate, the maximum link distance, the minimum transmission power, etc.

The summary of the themes covered along the course is provided in the following.

- Introduction to modern telecommunication systems

- Link budget

- Base band digital transmission systems

- Band pass digital transmission systems: L-ASK and M-QASK modulations

- The wireless channel

- Band pass noise and its impact on digital systems

- Digital telecommunication systems performance

- Current and next wireless communication systems.

Teaching methods

Lecturers and experimentaitons in laboratory.

During lab experimentations, students could go deeper into the matter through software and hardware instrumentations.

Assessment methods

Written and oral exam.

Teaching tools

The student can ask the Professor for office hours.

A set of exercises will be provided.

Students may also repeat autonomously the lab experiences or ask for the support of a tutor.
