Learning outcomes

Basics concepts of probability theory and its applications. Students will also learn basic inferential tools for point and interval estimation and hypothesis testing under random sampling from Gaussian and Binomial populations.

Course contents

1 – PROBABILITY

Random events, uncertainty, axioms of Probability, conditional probability and Bayes theorem. Discrete and continuous random variables. Laws of large numbers and Central Limit theorem.

2- STATISTICAL INFERENCE
Statistical models, population and sampling. Simple random samples and parametric inference. Parameters estimation and confidence intervals. The likelihood function. Testing statistical hypotheses; significance level and p-values. Tests for normal and binomial models. Chi-square test about independence structure for contingency tables.
