Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student:

- will have a general knowledge on the motivational and cognitive processes characterising social interaction and intergroup relations;

- will know and will be able to apply some basic theoretical and methodologicaltools to interpret such processes;

- willdevelop relational skills that allow to collaborate within teams composed by other professional figures.

Course contents

Course contents.

Introductoryinformation on the history of social psychology will be provided together with basic introduction to the main epistemologicalapproachesof the discipline theoretical constructs and research paradigms. A great deal of attention will be payed to the procesess of knowledgeformation and social reality representation. Then, the more pragmatic aspects of social behaviour will be considered such ascommunication and the bases of altruistic and aggressive behaviour. The course will then address issues regarding the self and identity. Moreover, topics reffering to group life will be addressed highliting both intragroup and intergroup processes. Finally, social influence processes will be considered.

Teaching methods

30 two-hoursclasses that will be given with the aid ofslides. During classes, discussions on relevant topics of social life will be opened.

Assessment methods

Learning will beasssessed through a test consisting of 30 multiple choice questions. the task will be that of choosingthe right answer amongthe different alternatives provided by the teacher.

Students who consistently attend classes will be entitled to undergo a test set exclusively for them at the end ot the course.

Teaching tools

The crucial issues of social psychology willbe addressed presenting the most influential theories, research, and authors of this discipline. Lessons will be complemented by slides and videos onthe topics of the course.
