Learning outcomes
The course aims to give the student fundamental knowledge relative to:
- psychological implications related to illness with poor prognosis
- psychological reactions to illness, care, hospitalization and rehabilitation program
- the communication of diagnosis
- management of relational dynamics related with relationship with the patient and family
Course contents
- emotional reactions to illness with poor prognosis: reactions of anxiety and depression
- defence mechanisms against anguish: denial, projction, rationalization and other defensive strategies
- communication of diagnosis to the patient and family
- psychological support in hospital
- managing the relationship with the patient
- the burnout in the health professions
