Course contents
Active sectorial translation program (Marina
Gasanova)
Course is directed towards the acquisition of active translation strategies and techniques, the ability of collecting documentation on given subjects, the memorization of specific language terms and the development of skills concerning stylistic choices and text editing in Russian. Special attention will be paid to translation methods and internet searching skills, in order to optimize the translation process.
Technical/scientific translation module - from Russian into Italian (Ilaria Lelli)
The course objective is to provide students with the necessary skills to translate real technical-scientific texts from Russian to Italian, approaching specialized texts as professional translators do.
Students will develop their translation skills, their problem solving ability, enhancing the capability to find adequate documentation, from one hand, and from the other hand facing terminological hurdles related to the study fields (medicine, chemistry and information science), whose main concepts will be analyzed.
Multimedia translation (dott.ssa Raffaella Romagnoli)
The course is aimed at deepening and consolidating the knowlwdge
and skills gained in the previous course through the analysis of
audiovisual texts of different kinds, in particular documentary
films, interviews, history and turistic documentaries. In this way
students will widen their knowledge about Russian culture.
Translation for publishing module (Prof.
Marica Fasolini)
The course will focus on the translation of fiction and non-fiction texts. The first part of the course will be dedicated to the translation of humor in fiction texts.(Teffy, Zoschenko and others).
In the second part of the course we will analyze and translate non fiction works with particular attention to cultural-bound aspects of the text.

Teaching methods
The course includes several exercises aiming at the development of: interpretation and semantic analysis skills (source text paraphrasing), the ability of using Russian language tools and carrying out revision and correction of the target text.
Assessment methods
For the modules of Technical-scientific Translation: Translation in a classroom equipped with computers of a text of the same typology seen during the course.
For the module of Multimedia Translation: Subtitling of a part of a documentary to be done at home and discussed with the teacher.
Translation for publishing module:
Translation at home of a text of similar typology to the ones examined.
Teaching tools
During the course research tools usually used for the translation process will be practiced , such as bilingual and monolingual dictionaries , including specialized ones , encyclopedias on-line and the Internet.
The software "Subtitle workshop" will be used in classroom and at
home.
