Learning outcomes
The student should learn the definition of manual/manipulative orthopaedic therapy, the theoretical basis of the main Italian and international manual therapy techniques, the indications, contraindications and limits, the methods of assessment and the main outcome measures. Moreover, the student must learn the general principles of application of manual therapies in the context of muscoloskeletal disorders. The student should know and be able to apply the technique of manual "pompages".
Course contents
THE ORTHOPAEDIC MANUAL/MANIPULATIVE THERAPY: Therapeutic objectives in Manual Therapy at the level of impairment, disability and participation. The choice of techniques for joints, ligaments, muscles and Nervous System. The choice of the parameters of each manual tehcnique. The concept of the degree of movement and the progression of forces. Traction, translation, mobilization, manipulation: physiological effects, techniques, characteristics, precautions. The construction of a therapeutic session. THE MAIN MANUAL/MANIPULATIVE THERAPY METHODS: Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Cyriax Orthopedic Medicine, Maitland concept, Kaltenborn-Evjenth Orthopedic Manual Therapy, The Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy according to McKenzie, the m obilisation of the Nervous System, Mézières Method and schools derived from it, particularly The Global Postural Reeducation. The Manual Therapy according to Bienfait: definition, characteristics, techniques. Myofascial techniques: theoretical basis and treatment techniques. The application of " Pompages" technique.
