Learning outcomes

This course focuses on a panoramic view of the main events and problems of the music and of its fundamental literary and figurative sources from Antiquity to Renaissance. Students are taught the principle tools and perspective to understand the historical dynamics and to apply them to the study of musical documents.

Course contents

Facts and problems of history of the ancient, medieval and renaissance music.

Regarding the music of the ancient world will be discussed the theme of  music and education (paideia): from Plato to Boethius.
