Learning outcomes
This programme aims at giving an introduction to journalism theory and practice. Students will develop basic skills in journalistic research, with a particular emphasis on sport. They will reach a complete knowledge of the different communication theories, in order to understand the social role of sport expressed by old and new media.
Course contentsThe Course in Sport Journalism aims at teaching the main theories about newsmaking processes, in order to show the basic skills in writing, editing, design, layout, basic photography and desktop publishing.
It aims to develop a critical understanding of different communication theories of the historical role and social purposes of different media. The course will analyse the main theories of sport sociology, in order to understand the role of communication in sport activities and events.
The course will be divided into two parts:
a) in the general part, the Course will present the main sociological theories and principles of journalism.
b) in the monographic part, the Course will present the main themes of sport sociology and the role of communication in sport activities and events, with the presentation of empirical cases on the influence of mass and personal media on sport.
