Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will have an understanding of the basic tools to analyze the variability of anthropometric traits. In particular, the student will have achieved the following abilities:- to plan an anthropometric survey; -to apply anthropometric methods for assessing nutritional status; -to analyze and to explain the variability of human growth and ageing.
Course contents
Aims and applications of Anthropometry. Methodology and techniques for human body measurement. Methods of analysis and representation of anthropometric data. Variability of somatometric, physiological and biochemical characters of anthropological and biomedical interest. Body composition. Anthropometric indicators of nutritional status.
Methods in human growth and ageing research. Age changes in anthropometric characters. Genetic and environmental influences on human growth and ageing. The human life cycle from an evolutionary perspective.
