Learning outcomes

The knowledge of the greek and roman art and archaeology, and its development in the provincial roman world (western and eastern provincies), through the study of the urbanistic, architecture, figurative arts and material culture of the ancient world, from archaism to the late antiquity 

Course contents

1. Outlines of Archaeology and History of the Greek Art: a) chronological and b) thematic survey: Protogeometric and Geometric period; archaic period, classical period, hellenistic period, through the Urbanistic, Architecture and figurative arts 

2. Outlines of Archaeology and History of the Roman Art: a) process of formation and definition through to the interaction with the Greek, Etruscan and Italic culture; b) republic period: the "cultured" and "common" art, the classicism; c) the imperial period: the figurative programs as expression of the ideology power; c) the late antiquity: the collapse of the classicism    

3. The conquering of the extra-italic territories: the process of the Romanization and the urban development of the roman provincies (Western and Eastern): the monumental programs, architectonics models and the images circulations in the sculpture and figurative arts in the provincial roman world

4. The archaeological tourism
