Learning outcomes

Through the study of Freudian Psychology of Art we intend to supply the necessary instruments to analize the psychic mechanisms behind the creation, fruition and critical analysis of works of art through a methodological and theoretical approach.

Course contents

first module - dott.ssa chiara tartarini (5/6 cfu)

the first module aims at considering two aspects of psychology of
art and perception. in the first part, we will investigate some
concepts concerning the perception of body, as a historic and
mental element whose dynamics will be traced back to the concrete
abstractions of the science and the allegories of arts. a
particular stress will be addressed to the teenage's body in
transformation, with a special attention to his interpretations
between nineteenth and twentieth centuries. in the second part, we
will examine the visual perception's processes in general, through
the analysis gestaltpsychologie's and rudolf arnheim's
contributions, on the one hand, and semir zeki's “visual brain” and
neuroesthetics on the other hand.

during the course, we will provide the students with a detailed
reference bibliography.

psychology and psychoanalisis.

Teaching methods

The course consists of 30+30 hours of frontal lessons with digital slides. It is possible the presence of experts in Psychology of art.

Assessment methods

Student's Evaluation Procedure: oral examination. It is possible to agree on teacher the compilation of a brief dissertation.
