Course contents

the course is aimed to give a basic knowledge of the discipline: historical process, problems and research methodology. At the end of the course the student will be able to know the main topics, facts and events of the Greek History (politic, institutions, society, religion, economy). An introduction about the methods of the historical research and the analysis of the documents will be offered.

The course will be divided in two parts:

1) First part:
Introduction to the Greek history, sources, methods, instruments.  2) Main themes of Greek history from the Doric irruption to the end of the Hellenistic kingdoms (30 BC).

2) Second part:

Main aspects and problems of the history of Sicily: colonial dynamics, intercultural process, cults, society and politic.

Atlas is essential

The students could agree on other readings with the teacher. They are kindly requested to integrate the main topics explained during the class with the list of readings. The students who can't attend the class will agree on time with the teacher a supplemental bibliography. The same goes for students who wish widen other topics of the discipline.

Teaching methods

Lessons will be all direct, with the help of copies and images to explain some topics.

Oral exam.
