Learning outcomes
The aim of the practical experiences is to give the students the essential knowledges to execute isolation, caracterization, maintenance ed use on laboratiry paper of microorganisms of industrial and environmental interest.
Course contents
Lab practice 1: Preparation of culture media for Bacteria and Yeast. Different procedures of sterilization.
Lab practice 2: Microrganism cultivation in solid and liquid media both in aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
Lab practice 3: Evaluation of cell concentration.
Lab practice 4: Kinetics parameters describing the growth of microrganisms in batch cultures.
Lab practice 5: Production of metabolites of industrial interest in a stirred tank reactor.
Lab practice 6: Extraction of contaminants from contaminated soils.
Lab practice 7: Biological treatment of contaminated soils in lab-scale bioreactors.
Lab practice 8: Final evaluation of the results of the different practices.

Teaching methods
Laboratory practices at the DICASM laboratories, preceded by class lessons for the presentation of each practice.
Assessment methods
Students will be asked to write a brief report of each lab practice. The reports will be corrected and discussed with the students.

In the class slides will be projected as course supporting material, and notes ans schemes on specific subjects will be given or indicated.
