- Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Electronic Engineering (cod. 0048)
Learning outcomes
This course is designed to introduce numerical methods - i.e. techniques which lead to the (approximate) solution of mathematical problems which are usually implemented on computers. The course covers derivation of useful methods and analysis of their accuracy and applicability.
Course contents
Introduce students to common numerical problems that arise in the sciences and the fundamental computational techniques for solving such problems. Typical topics include the characteristics of floating-point arithmetic, error analysis, approximation of roots of equations, solution of linear and nonlinear equations, and numerical solution of ordinary differential equations.
Readings/Bibliography

You can find the material for this course in many introductory books on Numerical Analysis such as
A Quarteroni, R Sacco and F Saleri, Numerical Mathematics, Springer, 2000.
Teaching methods
Lectures, exercises, laboratory activities in Matlab.
Assessment methods
Students should be able to read, understand and apply numerical analysis methods to the solution of simple engineering problems .
Teaching tools
The classwork will involve lectures and Matlab programming. No previous knowledge of Matlab is required.
