  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Biomedical Engineering (cod. 0203)

Learning outcomes

The students will learn the basis of the principal statistic techniques for the collection and the analysis of different type of data on quality. They will be able to understand the information on the aspects related to the quality in order to prevent  potential errors and/or defects.

Course contents

The evolution of the concept of quality: from the control to the continuous improvement. The fundamental contributions of Deming, Juran, Ishikawa, Crosby, Taguchi, Feugenbaum. Product  Quality and System Quality according to the ISO standards.

Aggregation of the concept of quality to the production: quality dimensions. The problem of the measure of the quality. Offered, attended and perceived quality. The customer satisfaction. Quality in the services: the model of the removals of Parasuraman, Zeithaml and Berry. The quality managed by the employees, the formation, TQ, TQM and CWQC. Identification and measurement of quality costs.

Quality and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Calls of descriptive statistic: the binomial distribution and the normal distribution. Data collection, stratification, histogram, Pareto analysis, Ishikawa (Cause/Effect) diagram, correlation diagram. Variability, natural tolerance and nominal specifications. Control charts for variables. Control charts for attributes. Capability Analysis. Use and interpretation of Capability Index.

Design of experiments: characterization and optimization, analysis of variance for a one-factor experiment, fixed effects model and random effects model. Factorial experiments, 22 factorial experiments.

Reliability and failure rate. Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).

Acceptance sampling. Sampling plains, OC curves, characteristic parameters, AQL,LTPD, AOQ, AOQL.

Introduction to ISO 9000:2000 standards. Certification, qualification, homologation. Certification system and quality prizes.
