Certificates and scrolls

You can use a certificate to certify your position before:

• Italian private entities;
• foreign public and private entities;
• Italian Embassies and Consulates abroad;
• the Police for the purpose of applying for or renewing a residence permit.

A registered signature is required on certificates to be submitted to the Prefecture for the legalisation of the PhD qualification.

A €16 revenue stamp must be affixed to all certificates, with the exception of those submitted for purposes exempted by current legislation [.pdf 11 KB].

Log in to Studenti Online with the credentials name.surname@studio.unibo.it and download independently the certificates in Italian and English, and pre-filled self-certification forms confirming:

• enrolment in a PhD programme;
• awarding of a qualification;
• declaration for tax purposes of the tuition fees paid each calendar year.

The certificates thus produced are without a handwritten signature and are valid for all legal purposes.

If you have lost or have not used your credentials to access Studenti Online for some time, we advise you recover your password, following the procedure indicated on the portal, or reactivate your account by emailing the Help Desk (help.studentionline@unibo.it), attaching a copy of a valid identity document.

If you need a certificate that is not available from Studenti Online, fill in the request form [.docx 18 KB] and e-mail it to aform.udottricerca@unibo.it, attaching a scan of the €16 revenue stamp (if required).

You can pick up the certificate in person at AFORM - PhD Unit by appointment, to be requested by e-mail. Collection by an authorised person with a written proxy and a copy of the delegating person's identity document is also permitted.

Alternatively, you may ask for a copy of the certificate to be sent to you by e-mail: in this case, you must provide AFORM - PhD Unit with the revenue stamp that will be affixed to the certificate, either by post or by hand.

If you obtained your degree in 1999 or later, you can pick up your scroll from AFORM - PhD Unit by appointment.

If you obtained your degree up to 2017 and have paid the fee for the scroll, you can ask for it to be sent to you (in Italy only) by writing to the PhD Unit with the delivery address and attaching a copy of a valid identity document. Collection by an authorised person with a written proxy and a copy of the delegating person's identity document is also permitted.
