The Deputy Rector stands in for the Rector by taking care of all his tasks if he is absent or unable to do it himself; she is also a non-voting member of the Board of Governors and of the Academic Senate.
According to their relative mandates, the other Vice Rectors stand in for the Rector for specifically delegated matters; the persons holding these positions may also be non-voting members of the university boards and other bodies requiring the presence of the Rector, for matters pertaining to their delegated area of competence.

Vice Rector for Teaching
Professor Nicola De Luigi
In keeping with the goals set out as part of the University’s strategic planning process, the duties of the Vice-Rector are mainly to promote and coordinate the University’s teaching activities and assess results as well as the quality of teaching.
He also deals with funding proposals for delegate matters in keeping with the University’s goals.
He promotes the internationalisation of teaching, by coordinating with the Vice-Rector for International Relations; he promotes initiatives aimed at ensuring teaching and research activities are well aligned, by coordinating with the Vice-Rector for Research; he promotes initiatives aimed at harmonising learning programmes between the school system and Degree Programmes, as well as improving guidance for incoming, ongoing and outgoing students, by coordinating with the Delegate for Students; he promotes initiatives concerning internships, higher apprenticeships and job placements, by coordinating with the Delegate for Students; he promotes activities aimed at supporting and enhancing teachers and researchers with a view to innovating university teaching methods, tools and processes.

Vice Rector for Research
Professor Stefano Fanti
In keeping with the goals set out as part of the University’s strategic planning process, he promotes and coordinates research activities, especially with reference to basic research. He ensures research training through PhD programme degrees and other forms of apprenticeship, by coordinating with the Vice-Rector for Teaching and the Delegate for Students. He promotes the assessment of the quality of research, the development of competitive projects – including in collaboration with other universities and national and international public entities – and the valorisation of the interdisciplinary aspects of research, with the aim of facilitating knowledge contamination and breaking down the disciplinary barriers that limit the development of new initiatives.
He encourages the development of the University’s infrastructures, laboratories, libraries, and research equipment, by coordinating with the Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation and promotes the internationalization of research, by coordinating with the Vice-Rector for International Relations. He promotes open space policies liaising with the Vice-Rector for Digital Transformation and the initiatives designed to improve the connection between research activities and teaching activities, by coordinating with the Vice-Rector for Teaching. He contributes to the valorisation and diffusion of research results, by coordinating with the relevant Vice-Rectors and Delegates; he manages relations with public and private subjects within the applied research sector, by coordinating with the Delegate for Relations with Businesses and Industrial Research. He ensures that research and third mission activities are aligned, by closely coordinating with the Delegate for Public Engagement and the Delegate for Relations with Businesses and Industrial Research.

Vice Rector for University Staff
Professor Giorgio Bellettini
In keeping with the goals set out as part of the University’s strategic planning process, and taking into consideration the areas of competence of the Director General, the tasks of the Vice-Rector mainly focus on the three-year planning of teachers and professional staff in order to assess their effectiveness and to simplify procedures and encourage maximum participation.
He fosters promotional and informative activities aimed at professors, researchers and professional staff who may be interested in participating in competitions or in being considered for direct calls planned by the relevant structures; he promotes a welcoming environment for professors, researchers and professional staff and their successful integration into each structure, by coordinating with the Delegate for Equity, Inclusion and Diversity; he proposes to revise instructions concerning the interdepartmental transfer of professors and researchers and monitors their application and effectiveness; he puts forward procedures to enhance merit.
He is also responsible for guiding and promoting policies for defining agreements with other universities or research bodies to jointly carry out teaching and research activities; for granting authorisation to full-time professors and researchers to carry out teaching and research activities, as well as institutional and management tasks, at third party premises; for defining initiatives aimed at preventing and settling disputes with teachers, researchers and professional staff; for the career development of staff; for occupational well-being and active policies for the quality of work, by coordinating with the Delegate for Sustainability and the Delegate for Equity, Inclusion and Diversity.
In accordance with the functions delegated to him, he collaborates with the Delegate for Trade Union Relations in defining the strategic guidelines for the management of labour and union relations by the Director General.

In line with the objectives of the University strategic plan and taking the areas of competence of the Director General into account, he is tasked with:
- representing the Rector in dealing with the public and private entities involved in the University's building plans and in charge of authorising construction projects;
- entering into agreements and partnerships to implement general initiatives and specific interventions approved by the competent Bodies in the area of constructions, which require the signature of the University's legal representative;
- encouraging the redevelopment of the University's real estate, by coordinating with the Delegate for Sustainability and the Delegate for Cultural Heritage;
- providing guidance on and supporting the preservation and maintenance of the University's real estate;
- providing guidance on, taking initiatives and reviewing performance in the areas of building planning, real estate management, energy and seismic upgrading, and enhancement of the University's heritage buildings, by coordinating with the Delegate for Budget and Planning, the Delegate for Sustainability and the Delegate for Cultural Heritage;
- taking initiatives to improve the accessibility, usability and quality of the University premises, also by coordinating with the Deputy Rector, the Delegate for Equity, Inclusion and Diversity and the Delegate for Employee Wellbeing;
- facilitating collaboration with public and private entities for the design and implementation of student housing projects and the management of energy services;

- coordinating and taking action to improve the sustainability of the programme catalogue in terms of how teaching spaces and infrastructures are organised, so as to optimise their use and sharing, to achieve both the inclusion of the student community at large and the best use of public resources, by coordinating with the Deputy Rector and the Vice Rector for Teaching;
- coordinating and taking action to streamline the teaching calendars and, in that way, making the programme catalogue more effective in every phase, from enrolling in a Degree Programme to graduating;
- facilitating dialogue with all of the University structures to devise joint solutions that respect the specificities of each Department and Degree Programme, for the purposes set out above;
- monitoring the Degree Programme admission processes on a continuous basis, for the purposes set out above;
- supporting the design of new Degree Programmes with a view to optimising structural resources and constantly improving the quality of the University's programme catalogue;
- providing guidance on and supporting postgraduate education and training activities – also by coordinating with the Delegate for Industrial Relations and Research – in order to make them seamlessly and sustainably fit into the University's programme catalogue.
