Career opportunities are available in companies working specifically in the electronics and telecommunications fields, the application of ICT technologies to energy efficiency and the environment, as well as other industrial areas and companies delivering services with a high technology content.
Work placements may also be carried out in collaboration with public and private bodies and companies operating in the territory.
The Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications for Sustainable Development study programme produces graduates with a solid background and the flexibility which derives from the technical and scientific knowledge acquired during the programme. Graduates may also continue the studies with a 2nd cycle Master's Degree level or starting PhD programmes in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications and, more generally, in Information Engineering.
Having passed the Italian national state examination, in compliance with the applicable regulations, graduates in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications for Sustainable Development may exercise the private profession (feasibility studies, design, technical arbitration, technical expert for parties and on behalf of the courts, etc.), also dealing with complex issues which require great skill.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
2nd cycle graduates in Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications for Sustainable Development will possess in-depth knowledge of the methodological and operative aspects of mathematics, basic science and information sciences. They will have an in-depth understanding of the advanced aspects of modelling, design, optimisation, control and analysis of electronic and micro-electronic technologies, systems for the generation, processing and transmission of electric signals, telecommunications systems and networks. They are able to use this knowledge to interpret and describe highly complex problems, identifying innovative and non conventional solutions, even when faced with completely new problems. The above knowledge and understanding are achieved through learning activities organised in the course curricula within the disciplinary field of "Electronic Engineering", in particular in the sectors ING-INF/01 ING-INF/02 , ING-INF/07 and course units in similar sectors indicated in the table of this Degree Programme System: CHIM/07, FIS/01, FIS/03, INF/01, ING-IND/06, ING-IND/09, ING-IND/10, ING-IND/11, ING-IND/22, ING-IND/23, ING-IND/31, ING-IND/33, ING-IND/35, ING-INF/03, ING-INF/04, ING-INF/05, ING-INF/06, IUS/05, IUS/20, MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/07, MAT/08, MAT/09, SECS-P/07, SECS-P/10, SECS-S/01, SECS-S/02.
The teaching methods used include participation in lectures, exercises and seminars, guided self-study and autonomous study. Assessment of the achievement of the described learning outcomes shall be mainly through tests, written and oral exams for which a score is given, exams and laboratory tests for which a pass or fail score is given.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
2nd cycle graduates have an in-depth knowledge of the structure and properties of conventional electronic and telecommunications devices, apparatus and systems and are able to apply this knowledge to advanced devices or systems, autonomously assessing performance during use and forecasting operational behaviour during the useful life of products and innovative products.
They will understand the techniques and instruments of computer-assisted design and be proficient in the use of the most advanced computer systems. They will be able to implement projects and analyses using highly complex numerical calculation software programmes; if necessary, they will know how to develop specific computer tools to match needs emerging in companies or freelance environments.
They will be able to autonomously manage and coordinate experimentations, research and development activities, quality control and testing of conventional and non-conventional products; they will be able to manage design teams, identifying the best solutions for production. They may competently carry out negotiations with customers together with the sales sector, suggesting improvements and adaptations, taking autonomous initiatives and competently interpreting the needs of the purchaser in order to transform them into appropriate design specifications.
They will be able to identify and allocate tasks, supervise the work and operative insertion of new resources.
They will have an in-depth knowledge of the conventional electronic and telecommunications devices, systems and apparatus and will be able to modify and design devices, apparatus and systems for energy and environmental applications and for other specific company needs.
They will be able to create simulations in laboratory conditions or develop prototypes of ICT equipment and systems for sustainable development an in particular for energy and the environment, assessing performance with appropriately designed experimental set-ups.The achievement of the ability to apply the above knowledge and understanding will be accomplished through the critical study of texts proposed for self-study, stimulated by classroom activities, the research of case studies and applications presented by the professors, practical laboratory work, bibliographic research and field work, the execution of projects required as part of the course units in the core and supplementary subjects, as well as through the preparation of the final examination. The tests, written and oral exams, reports, practical work and problem solving activities imply the execution of specific tasks which aim to demonstrate the student's command of tools, methods and critical autonomy.
JUDGEMENT SKILLS:
2nd cycle graduates will be able to identify, formulate and solve problems linked to the design and production of company products, also where relative to innovative articles by company standards.
They will be able to keep abreast of the developments in methods, techniques and instruments in the field of electronic engineering and telecommunications, autonomously researching or following training courses aimed at the acquisition of additional skills.Judgement skills are developed in particular through guided practical exercises, supervised seminars and the preparation of papers as part of the activities assigned by the supervising professor in preparation of the final dissertation. The acquisition of judgement skills is assessed through the evaluation of the maturity demonstrated by students during exams and during the activities assigned in preparation of the final examination.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
They are able to effectively communicate orally and in writing both in Italian and at least English, to a high level of knowledge.
They will be able to work and participate in working groups also acting as manager or coordinator; they will therefore be able to interact with subjects and professions other than their own.
Written and oral communication skills are developed in particular during seminars, practical exercises and learning activities generally which also require the production of reports and written documents as well as their oral presentation.
The acquisition of the aforementioned communication skills is also assured through the preparation and presentation of the final examination.LEARNING SKILLS:
2nd cycle graduates will develop learning skills to such a high level that they will be able to autonomously keep abreast of the methods, techniques and instruments in the Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications field for energy and the environment, in the conventional and innovative design, modelling, optimisation, advanced function analysis, experimental control and numerical simulation, and development of complex telecommunications devices, systems and networks, as well as continuing studies to a high level of autonomy (e.g. 2nd level Master's degree) and/or in the field of research or other academic activities.
The aforementioned learning skills are achieved through learning activities in the disciplinary fields laid down in the degree programme system and in particular the activities carried out partially in an autonomous manner.
