Laurea Magistrale (Second cycle degree/Two year Master - 120 ECTS) in Applied Criminology, Investigation, and Security

The second cycle degree programme in Applied criminology for security and investigation aims to provide graduates with the theoretical and applicative instruments to operate in the criminology sector with knowledge of updated investigation techniques and adequate methodological competencies concerning security. To achieve this aim the programme offers course units that allow students to: enhance the mastery of criminological subjects, acquire knowledge of institutional systems for national and local security policies and prevention of deviant behaviour, and acquire notions in subject areas useful for improving understanding of the phenomena studied, such as public economy, psychology and criminal law.
The programme includes course units that aim to promote high-profile professional competencies necessary for operating in the security sector with planning, administration and management functions.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY:
Graduates:
- will have advanced knowledge concerning the prevention and repression of criminal phenomena, social control, security and law enforcement;

- will be able to evaluate the complex nature of criminal dynamics, understanding the psychological and social dimension with particular reference to crime victim-perpetrator relationships;

- will have the ability to identify and analyse theoretical approaches and interpretative models concerning the concepts of risk and insecurity at different levels;

- will have composite knowledge – legal, economic, historical and politological – useful for dealing with deviant behaviour.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND TO UNDERSTAND:
Graduates:
- will have the ability to make reasoned and conscious use of the theoretical knowledge acquired in different intervention areas;

- will have the competencies to conceive, implement and manage projects to protect people, tangible and intangible assets through the use of the appropriate security and investigation techniques, adapting them to specific contexts;

- will have a good ability to collect data and critically examine the circumstances of criminal events.

- will have training which combines a high level of specialisation with an interdisciplinary dimension, useful for discerning and evaluating security issues in both private and public contexts;

- will have theoretical and operational knowledge for collecting and elaborating information for projects and proposals suitable for different contexts of action.

- will have the ability to take part in conversations concerning fields of study with public and private subjects, using communication methods that favour mutual understanding and dialogue, also in the case of structured relations and complex decision-making processes.
