99585 - Communication with Real Time Rendering T (L-Z)

Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Moduli: Filippo Fantini (Modulo 1) Riccardo Foschi (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Industrial Design (cod. 8182)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the lab, the student possesses skills covering the methods and techniques of visualizing three-dimensional digital models in real-time, techniques of presenting the design in interactive environments for the purpose of its photorealistic evaluation and visualization.

Course contents

Upon completion of the lab, the student possesses skills covering the theoretical and technical aspects of visualizing three-dimensional digital models in real-time.

The course will expose the different types of real-time visualization and their applications for project presentation.

Students will learn how to handle the various stages of model preparation in a real-time rendering environment:

- importing NURBS models and meshes;

- database management;

- application and modification of materials;

- lighting management;

- animation of parts;

- interaction with the scene.

Teaching methods

The course is organized into lectures on theoretical aspects and communications of an applied nature on the use of software used for exercises, in a series of group exercises.

Only students who have attended at least 70 percent of the lectures and carried out the exercises will be eligible to take the profit examination.

In the case of laboratory activities, it is good to remember the importance of appropriate classroom behavior, particularly to avoid possible injuries. In this regard, students are advised to conduct modules 1 and 2 in e-learning mode and to attend module 3 of specific training on safety and health in the workplace. Directions on dates and mode of attendance of module 3 can be found in the appropriate section of the course of study website.

Assessment methods

The final evaluation will be the result of a scrutinized assessment. Judgment will be based on the outcomes of the in-progress tests and group exercises conducted during the course.

Teaching tools

The course will make use of the computer lab and Autodesk Vred real time rendering software and other applications that will be shown in class from time to time.

Official communications and lecture materials will be posted and made available through the platform https://virtuale.unibo.it/
