Learning outcomes
The seminar aims to introduce students to the current debate on Citizenship and GlobalCitizenship within the framework of current research and policy analysis, from a theoretical, social and pedagogical perspective. The course offers participants the opportunity to critically explore the literature and to become aware of how their own learning on these issues can influence their professional practice and promote a global citizenship perspective.
The theoretical discourse will then be applied to concrete case studies and will be declined through teaching methods for its inclusion within the secondary school. In particular, the teaching practices of citizenship and civic education in school curricula will be explored and teaching strategies will be discussed.
By the end of the course, students will have developed a broad understanding of the effects, opportunities and challenges generated by globalisation processes, especially in the field of human science education, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.
After a general introduction, the seminar will be divided into three main modules:
1. Globalisation and its discontents
- globalisation as an elusive concept
- areas of globalisation: Economic, social, political and cultural
- impact of globalisation on educational policies and practices
- end of globalisation?
2. Global Citizenship Education (ECG) and the Sustainable Development Goals
- The global turn in education
- Critical issues around ECG
- ECG and the Sustainable Development Goals in the context of the 2030 Agenda
3. Teaching global civic education
- Civic and citizenship education in schools
- Teaching techniques in secondary school
- Micro-teaching exercise
