Learning outcomes

At the end of the laboratory students have knowledge to understand the basic structure of Internet, the most important tool of the World Wide Web (e-mail, instant messaging, social networking, ...) and the debate on the knowledge and network society; they are also able to use ICT to find, assess, produce, present and exchange information and to communicate and participate to collaborative networks on Internet; they can analyze and evaluate critically tools and technologies for teaching and learning; they are able to use ICT for critical thinking, creativity and innovation; they are able to use ICT to design, document, monitor and assess activities.

  • Introduction to the main operating systems
  • Fundamental structure of the Internet and research processes
  • Data: formats, metadata and Open Data
  • Conservation and management of structured data
  • Management of images and graphics
  • Spreadsheets: functions, statistics, graphics generation
  • Techniques of data interpolation and numerical approximation
  • Introduction to emerging technologies: Extended Reality, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, 3D Printing

Teaching methods

  • Multimedia presentations and slideshow
  • Practical exercises conducted on students' computers or in the lab under the guidance of the teacher
  •  Use of software available through Campus licenses or open-source applications

The training activity adheres to the inclusive teaching method defined as 'Didattica Digitale Integrativa' (DDI) allowing students to explore the course topics in depth with new and effective, easy-to-use tools.

Taking into account the type of activities and the teaching methods adopted, the frequency of this course requires the prior participation of all students in modules 1 and 2 of training on safety at the place of study, in e-learning mode.

Assessment methods

The verification of learning takes place by completing two test sections:

  • Written test with closed-response questions
  • Resolution of exercises using spreadsheet to be performed on the laboratory computer

The student's time for the exam is 60 minutes.

The student assessed positively will have passed the examination and will therefore the corresponding eligibility. In fact, this course does not provide for an evaluation with a vote.

Teaching tools

Lessons take place using presentations and multimedia tools. A part of the course takes place through practical exercises, also conducted on students' computers or in the lab, using software available through Campus licenses or through open-source applications provided by the teacher.
