28877 - Laboratory 1 (RN)

Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Imaging and Radiotherapy techniques (cod. 6063)

Course contents

Laboratory 1 is structured as an 8-hour session, focusing on the analysis of radiographic cases and the discussion of theoretical aspects covered in basic radiographic techniques and 12 hours in the hospital

The students will be divided into 3 groups, and the laboratory will take place over three afternoons, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, in the diagnostic room at Infermi Hospital in Rimini. The activities will be conducted with the collaboration of three Radiographers, serving as tutor supervisors, and with the use of an anthropomorphic doll.

Key topics covered during the laboratory:
  • Preparation of the diagnostic room
  • Radioprotection and hygiene protocols
  • Movement and handling of radiographic equipment
  • Anatomical landmarks and patient positioning
  • Light beam collimator and centering (importance for image quality)
  • Collimation: techniques and rationale
  • Focus-to-film distance (FFD)
  • Tube angulations and their nomenclature
  • Grids and filters
  • Potter-Bucky system
  • AEC (Automatic Exposure Control)
  • Exposure parameters
  • Lateral identification markers
  • Patient radioprotection systems
  • Qualitative analysis of radiographic images
  • Use of the CR system (Computed Radiography)

This activity is designed to integrate theory and practice, providing students with a solid foundation to approach radiographic techniques with competence and confidence.
