Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the student will have knowledge about the influence of climate change in the dynamics of communicable diseases with a special focus on vector-borne diseases.

Course contents

The student at the end of the course will be able to:


- Describe changes in disease epidemiology that are potentially influenced by changes in the environment
- Discuss the potential influences of climate change on the occurrence of infectious diseases from the perspective of human, animal and environmental health
- Apply knowledge about climate change to clinical reasoning, emergency preparedness, and medical decision-making involving emerging and special pathogens
- Identify resources to stay current with evolving disease epidemiology.

- Basics of Climate Change (CC);
- Sustainable Development and Health in the One Health perspective;
- Impact of Climate Change on infectious diseases in Europe and the world;
- Climate Migration;
- Foodborne infections & CC;
- Water-related infections & CC;
- Vector-borne diseases & CC.
- Current situation and future prospects

Readings/Bibliography

During the course, the lecturer will recommend scholarly publications and reports to enable the student to further explore the topics covered in class.
