Learning outcomes

Knowledge and skills to be achieved. At the end of the module the student applies the acquired knowledge related to technical, relational and educational skills in fundamental nursing care. He/she develops methodological competences related to care planning. The activity is developed in relation to the practical training and theoretical content.

Course contents

The laboratory provides an opportunity for the student to experiment in applying theoretical principles to clinical practice and to practise, in a controlled environment, to develop

- technical-practical skills prior to clinical practice through the use of simulators/dummies;

- educational, organisational, relational, reasoning and problem solving skills by applying care methodologies.

Gesture workshop: activity carried out in small groups of students. On the basis of the learned theoretical content the student practises to acquire a technical-manual skill. The activity is conducted by an experienced nurse by means of demonstration of the activity and subsequent performance by the student on dummies or also by practice among students themselves. The scheduled workshops are:

1. Movement laboratory

Relation laboratory: activity carried out in small groups of students. On the basis of the theoretical content learnt the student practises to acquire communication, relational skills. The activity is conducted by an experienced nurse by means of a demonstration of the activity and subsequent execution by the student. The scheduled workshops are:
1. Workshop on Education through brief motivational interviewing

2. Workshop on aggression management

3. Workshop on continuity of care through deliveries

4. Critical care area workshop

Care planning/educational planning workshop the activity takes place in groups. Students are presented with the description of a clinical care case, from which students plan care by identifying problems (nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems), objectives/outcomes, indicators and specific care interventions including educational ones. The scheduled workshops are:

1. Planning workshop for the person in critical care

2. Planning workshop for the person in mental health

3. Planning workshop for the person to guarantee continuity of care

The reference bibliography are texts and handouts identified by the lecturer.

Individual study of in-depth clinical and methodological content in the clinical context

Small group training with guided application

Role playing
Discussion of cases in subgroups with presentation in plenary sessions under the guidance of the lecturer-tutor

Assessment methods

The assessment of each individual workshop will be carried out according to the specific objectives. The final qualification will be achieved by passing a written test with multiple-choice quizzes measuring knowledge, comprehension, reasoning and decision-making.
