Learning outcomes

This course introduces the principles of biomedical ethics, equipping students with the skills to recognize and analyze ethical dilemmas encountered in clinical and research settings. Students will explore foundational frameworks and approaches for resolving these dilemmas effectively.

Course contents

  1. Introduction to Ethics
    Understanding the basics of ethics, with a focus on research ethics and a historical overview of its development.

  2. Foundations of Bioethics
    Exploring key concepts in bioethics, biolaw, moral theories, and codes of conduct, including an introduction to the Four Principles of Bioethics.

  3. Core Ethical Principles: Autonomy, Beneficence, Non-Maleficence, and Justice
    A detailed examination of the Four Principles, with practical case studies, and an in-depth look at autonomy and justice in healthcare.

  4. Ethics in Communication
    Addressing ethical considerations in communication, with a focus on epistemic injustice and paternalism in clinical and research interactions.
