Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Ravenna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Medicine and Surgery (cod. 5906)

Course contents

The Biochemistry Laboratory course is part of the integrated Biochemistry course provided in the first and second semester of the first year of the Medicine and Surgery degree program.

In the second semester, some laboratory exercises will be conducted in the computer lab using appropriate software (Nutrigeo, Progeo Medical, Italy) to set up personalized dietary regimes, taking into account the nutritional status and energy expenditure of an individual, aimed at the prevention and/or treatment of specific pathologies.

This experience will allow students to delve deeper into the metabolic pathways related to the various organs covered in the Metabolic Biochemistry course and their alterations in the case of classic diseases (e.g., diabetes).

Readings/Bibliography

Specific websites related to the topics covered in the laboratory exercises will be provided.

Teaching methods

Presentation of a professional software program aimed at teaching the assessment of an individual's nutritional status, total energy expenditure, and the development of specific dietary plans for the prevention/treatment of various pathologies.

Assessment methods

The laboratory activity contributes to the achievement of the educational objectives of the Metabolic Biochemistry modules. The students' level of learning is therefore assessed through questions in the written exam of Metabolic Biochemistry.

Teaching tools

Dedicated software is used.
