Teaching methods

The course is divided into lectures and practical exercises in the classroom, individually and in small groups. These exercises aim to transform a clinical care problem into one or more questions to be searched in the scientific literature by querying the main nursing databases.

Assessment methods

At the end of the course, students are invited to draft, in groups of 5 people, a written essay based on a format prepared by the teacher. The essay consists of formulating a research question on a topic of your choice using the PICO model and carrying out a literature search. The essay should be sent via email to the teacher at least 1 week before the exam date. Each student will also be asked to choose one of the articles found from the literature research and present it orally during the exam, synthetically outlining the objective, materials and methods, results and discussion. Finally, the student will be asked to describe the evidence drawn from the article and the implications for clinical practice.

The vote will be defined as follows:

  • 30-30L → excellent creation of the essay in compliance with delivery times, exhaustive display of the chosen article
  • 25-29 → complete completion of the essay in compliance with delivery times, adequate display of the chosen article
  • 20-24 → overall correct completion of the essay, sufficient exposure of the chosen article
  • 18-19 → sufficient completion of the essay, presentation of the main contents of the chosen article
  • < 18 → failure to produce the essay according to the format provided, insufficient exposure of the main contents of the chosen article

The integrated exam is considered passed if the student achieves a final grade equal to or higher than 18 also in the remaining modules.

Teaching tools

The lessons will be carried out through the use of the main technological tools (PowerPoint) together with the connection to databases via Proxi Unibo.
