B5812 - GOVERNANCE DELLA CYBERSECURITY

Academic Year 2024/2025

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the knowledge to understand and assess the main threats to information and social systems from cyber-attacks as well as the main ways to mitigate the risks in public and private organisations. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to apply the acquired knowledge to deal with cyber risks in multiple organisational contexts by defining priorities for intervention.

Course contents

The course addresses the strategic and management issues of cybersecurity from the point of view of states and public and private organizations of different sizes.

After describing the current digital scenario, the course addresses the priority objectives of each entity together with the cyber threats and internal vulnerabilities that put these objectives at risk.

Cyber risks must be assessed to define the intervention priorities that must be at the prevention, detection and response levels.

For each phase, the risk treatment must operate at the following levels:
- strategic
- management
- operational

In the last part, other risks and countermeasures will be addressed at the following levels:
- disinformation
- cyber conflict
- smart society
- Artificial Intelligence and decision-making autonomy

Readings/Bibliography

Slides, teacher's notes, book chapters, scientific articles and online resources will be posted on the Virtuale Web site

Teaching methods

The course includes lectures and classroom discussions. Interaction is assessed as a component of the final grade.

Assessment methods

A component of the grade (about 20%) is acquired through classroom interactions and presentations. These grades will be communicated by the end of the course.

The 80% of the grade is based on an oral exam with two possibilities.

By the winter session (February 2025) students can choose a topic to be presented and discussed in the exam session. The topic must be agreed with the teacher in advance.

From March 2025, the evaluation is based on a typical oral exam on all the topics of the course.
