98882 - GESTIONE IMPIANTI CHIMICI

Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Chemical methodologies for products and processes (cod. 6006)

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide knowledge on the operating mechanisms and management criteria of the main equipment used in the chemical industry. Specifically, students will be able to understand the following basic elements of chemical plant engineering: the motion of fluids and handling equipment, heat exchange equipment, mass exchange equipment, stage-wise and continuous contact equipment, auxiliary fluids for the management of chemical plants, industrial instrumentation for measuring flow, level, pressure, and temperature. Students will acquire basic notions of control systems and the fundamental operating principles of equipment for treating gaseous effluents.

    Teaching methods

Lectures and classroom exercises according to the official schedule.

During the lectures, the aforementioned topics are presented and discussed; this theoretical moment is complemented by numerical exercises conducted in the classroom.

During the exercises, to help students acquire the ability to perform simple calculations and to prepare for the exam, exercises are carried out in the classroom. In the course of this activity, the instructor adjusts the difficulty of the problems and clarifies any doubts.

    Assessment methods

The final exam aims to verify the achievement of the following educational objectives:

    • The ability to use the analytical and calculation tools covered in the lectures and exercises to understand the operation of the equipment.
    • The ability to use the results obtained to improve the operation of plants and process equipment.

The assessment of learning is conducted through an oral exam to be taken at the end of the course. The oral exam involves solving exercises and discussing topics covered in the lectures.

    Teaching tools

The educational material useful for exam preparation (outlines, diagrams, worksheets, and exercise texts) is made available to students in electronic format via the internet.
