Learning outcomes
The course provides the basics of classical thermodynamics applied to chemical systems and of chemical kinetics.
Students become familiar with phase diagrams of pure substances and those of multiple components. They also learn to compute the equilibrium constants and to study its dependence on the physical conditions.
In addition, students learn to determine the reaction rate constants and to establish the reaction order. They investigate the kinetic law of reaction and how it depends on the temperature and on catalytic effects.
Course contents
- General properties of ideal gases
- First principle of thermodynamics
- Thermochemistry
- Second principle of thermodynamics
- Gibbs energy
- Phase equilibrium of pure substances and mixtures
- Chemical equilibrium
- Chimical Kinetics
