Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the training activities, the student possesses knowledge that complements and supplements the content of the teachings on care/educational/organizational aspects of specific and/or special interest.

Course contents

1- Blood and blood product transfusion: knowledge of the transfusion process, company procedure, and the responsibilities of all operators, especially the nurse, at various stages. Case presentation. Nursing activities in the Transfusion Service: the blood donation process and therapeutic plasmapheresis

2- Diets for major Chronic Diseases, in intolerances and frequently used special diets: foods allowed and to avoid. Diets for cirrhosis, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, renal failure. Diets offered in hospitals. Interactive exercises

3- Preparation, management and administration of chemotherapy drugs, management of spillage and side effects: knowledge of personal protective equipment, garrisoning, waste management of chemotherapy drugs. Accidental spillage management. Examples of concrete situations. The company's procedure for managing chemotherapy drugs.

4 - Drug dosage calculations for adult/child. Use of infusion pumps, including pump-syringe and 'elastomer: calculation of drug dosage in relation to different therapeutic prescriptions and delivery systems. Calculation of infusion rate with pumps. Practical examples
5- Gender Responsive Medicine and Nursing: Italian legislation to develop Gender Responsive Medicine and the need for training for health care personnel. Definitions of gender and sex and scientific evidence on differences in Medicine. Medicine and the care of LGBTQ+ people: definitions, pathway and issues. Higher Institute of Health document. -6 Nursing care and education for the nephropathic patient: overview of important information in the phase of renal failure (pre-dialysis), in peritoneal dialysis and in hemodialysis. Particular focus on the education necessary for the patient in peritoneal dialysis

Specialized teaching materials will be provided by the lecturers of the various seminars. These materials will be made available on the Unibo Virtual Platform, possibly before the seminar itself. Bibliographic references for further study will be provided

Teaching methods

The Seminars will be mainly taught using interactive methods: interactive lectures, examples and case discussions

Assessment methods

The test will be performed with a multiple choice test (one valid answer out of 4) with 24 questions. On average, one question is calculated for each hour of teaching held. The test will be in conjunction with the Laboratory 2 exam.

Teaching tools

Video projection of Power Point presentations. Other teaching materials such as videos, articles, company procedures, Guidelines etc, will be presented and commented on. Simulations of problem situations. Specific specialized assistive devices may be shown in the classroom.
