Learning outcomes
The student knows the basic strategies of language mediation and will be able to use them in basic communication situations. The skills achieved at the end of the first year are indicatively level B1 of the CEFR.
Course contents
The aim of the course is to develop basic communication skills, improve language knowledge and able students to read and understand simple texts in Chinese and spoke about typical situations of daily life.
The course will focus on the following grammar aspects: modal verbs, sentences with an adjectival predicate, the use of prepositions, sentences with a nominal predicate, double-object verbs, progressive sentences, the use of localizers and the syntax of temporal structures.
The students will learn how to write other 200 characters and how to recognize the 214 radicals.
The course consists of 40 hours of standard lessons and 40 hours of lectorship. All students must attend the whole course (40h+40h). Lectorship will take place twice a week (two hours for each lesson), alternating with the standard lessons.The topics of the lectorship will be selected in accordance with the topics of the standard lessons. The final exam will concern the contents of both the standard lessons and the lectorship.Readings/Bibliography

Teaching methods
Lectures for grammar explanations and communicative approach for the development of communication skills. Using a communicative approach, the teacher will strongly encourage the active involvement of the students in individual and cooperative learning activities.
Writing exercises will be assigned as homework for individual practice and they will be corrected by the teacher every week.
Assessment methods
The final exam is divided into two parts: the written exam (2 hours) and the oral exam (15-30 minutes). Only if the student passes the written exam (the minimum mark is 18/30), he/she can take the oral exam.
The written exam consists of grammar exercises (cloze tests, multiple choice test, reconstruction of sentences, etc.), reading comprehension exercises, translation of short sentences from Italian into Chinese and dictation. Dictionaries cannot be used during the whole exam.
In the oral exam, students will read one text in Chinese , summarize its content and answer specific and general questions about the content of the text or about other topics analyzed during the course.
In the written exam, for each exercise students will obtain a different score that will be indicate from time to time. In the dictation, for each correct character students will obtain 0,25 points. In the other exercises, for each correct answer students will obtain 1 point. Wrong answers of no-answers are always worth 0 points. The minimum score to pass the exam is 36/60, while the maximum score is 60/60. The final score is then reported in thirtieths. In the oral examination, the score of the written exam can be raised for a maximum of 3 points: one point is assigned if the student reads correctly the Chinese text; one point is assigned if the student answers correctly some questions about that text; one point is assegned for the conversion in Chinese. The student will get '30 with honors' only if the score of the written text is 30/30 and if he/she does not make mistakes during the oral exam.
This module is part of the course "Lingua e comunicazione (second lingua cinese) I". The final mark is the average grade of the two final marks of the two parts of the whole course.Teaching tools
