-
from Sep 23, 2024 to Dec 20, 2024
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will acquire a good knowledge of the main body plans and the biology of the organisms of the Animal kingdom. In particular the student will be able to identify the phylum and the class of an animal and will relate the body plan to adaptive and evolutionary features
Course contents
Kingdom of Life - The Animal Kingdom - Evolution:Lamarck, Darwin, the New Synthesis - Principles of Taxonomy - Criteria distinguishing the body plans - Morfology of: Porifera, Mesozoa, Cnidaria, Ctenofora, Platyhelminthes . Teaching methods
Front lessons and laboratory practice on zoological samples
Assessment methods
The examination focuses on the achievement of the formative purpose:
To know the anatomy of major animal phyla To know the pathways undertaken to achieve the extant animal diversity To know the grounds of biological classification To know the relationships of the studied animal phyla The grade is determined on the basis of a written test based on close and open queries, an oral examination and on the identification of zoological samples seen during laboratory exercises whose attendance is mandatory and necessary for admission to the examination.
