Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student knows the specific characters of contemporary history and, in particular, the social transformations and cultural policies of the twentieth century. It can understand the main issues relating to the contemporary.
Course contents
The course will present some fundamental topic of world history since the 18th century.
The following subjects will be addressed:

Patterns of citizenship in the 19th century
Race and Racism between 18th and 19th century

Teaching methods
The course will be articulated through a series of lectures which will address the most imporant historiographical debates, will analyse sources and use audiovisual teaching support tools.
Assessment methods
Students are required to pass two written exams.
The first written exam will last 30 minutes during which the student must answer to 8 questions on general topics of contemporary history. Students must accurately read the following chapters of Alberto Banti Handbooks:

The assessement will be based on appropriatnes and precision of the answers.
For the second written text, students must choose one the following groups of texts and will be required to answer to three questions in 50 minutes. Assessement will be based on the accuracy in the knowledge of texts, the ability to critically single out the most important arguments, the correct use of a scientific language.
