Course contents
Great achievements of Particle Physics and the consecration of the Standard Model: the discovery of c, b, t quarks, the tau lepton, symmetry violations, neutrinos and flavor oscillations, the Quark Gluon Plasma, the Higgs Boson.
Interlude: benefits of particle physics for society: medicine, security, computing and communications. Particle physics as a driver for technological innovation.
Great milestones of particle physics: the need for Standard Model extensions, new guiding principles, new paradigms and the future of fundamental physics. Large infrastructures on the horizon: new high-energy colliders and new artificial neutrino beams.

Assessment methods
The student has to deepen a topic presented in class by writing a short thesis (max 5 pages) and by giving an oral presentation with slides (max 15 slides). Care to the bibliographic sources has to be given. Starting from the topics presented in the presentation, the commission will then proceed with questions that will focus on the content of the entire course.
