Course contents
The course investigates the nexus between war and politics, considered in its historical evolution and in the development of strategic thought. To this end, the course is divided into three parts. In the first, we will examine the work of Thucydides, to highlight some important points that have characterized the reflections on war and politics up to the present day; in the second, we will focus on those writings by Niccolò Machiavelli that best capture the political dimension of war at the beginning of the modern age; finally, in the third, we will consider the evolution of war and strategic thought from the modern to the contemporary age, focusing, among other things, on the reflections of Carl von Clausewitz.
