59209 - Applied Nursing Methodology (A)

Academic Year 2024/2025

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Nursing (cod. 5907)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student has an understanding of the Functional Models of Health and knows the nursing methodology to progressively respond to the different degrees of care complexity that the person/family/community presents.

Course contents

With reference to the following functional models of health by M. Gordon:

  • Activity and Exercise
  • Nutritional-Metabolic
  • Elimination

it is intended to develop skills in:

  • the identification of the main factors influencing the functional model;
  • the identification of functional and dysfunctional data (the main manifestations of impairment);
  • the description of specific nursing assessment;
  • the identification of nursing diagnoses as a response to nursing care needs;
  • the identification of nursing objectives in terms of outcomes;
  • the identification of nursing care interventions and scientific evidence with reference to the defined outcomes;
  • the identification of nursing care evaluation indicators with reference to the defined outcomes;
  • the management of the nursing care process with reference to each functional model.

In addition, the student develops the competence of Medication Therapy Management.

The contents learned in the course of the teaching will be related to seminars and workshops of the Integrated Core Nursing Course (C.I.).

Assessment methods

The learning assessment mode consists of two tests to be held on the same day (Module A and B together):

-Written test with 30 multiple-choice questions for access to the oral test. The written test is considered passed if a score of 24/30 or higher is achieved.

-Oral test consisting in the oral exposition of two topics, aimed at verifying the contents possessed, the ability to express them in a clear and logical manner, and the ability to deepen and connect the contents covered.

The written test has a weighting of 70% and the oral test has a weighting of 30%.

The grade will be defined as follows:

  • 30 cum laude, excellent argumentation and perfect exposition
  • 24 to 30, complete argumentation and correct exposition
  • 18 to 23, sufficient argumentation and uncertain exposition

Students with the right to adaptations/compensatory measures (duly recognised through contact with the University's ‘Service for Students with Disabilities and SLDs’) are invited to report this to the lecturer:

  • during teaching: as soon as possible, even when lessons have already started;
  • for examinations: within 2 weeks of the scheduled date.
