Learning outcomes

Students at the end of the lessons will have knowledge about microbiology and clinical microbiology, with a particular focus on the applicative aspects. They will also have been taught the main concepts about the microbial pathogenicity and laboratory diagnostics.

Mycetes, protozoa and helminths
General characteristics of infection diseases

Clinical microbiology
Microbiological diagnosis of infectious diseases: direct, indirect, rapid
Sampling, pre-analysis and main pathogens:
- infections of the genito-urinary system
- infections of the gastro-intestinal system
- infections of the respiratory system
- infections of the circulatory system
- infections of the nervous system

Microbiological problems
Antibiotic-resistant bacteria
Management of the infected/colonised patient
Care-related infections
Concept of sterility on the ward and in the operating room

Teaching methods

During the lessons the topics included in the course program will be discussed with the students.

 

Assessment methods

Assessment of the student's acquired knowledge is based on the administration of a single questionnaire consisting of 64 questions for the Integrated Course in PREVENTIVE AND COMMUNITY SCIENCES, with multiple choice. The questions will be distributed, based on the number of credits in each module, as follows:


Hygiene 24 questions, Microbiology 16, Radiation Protection 8, Preventive Nursing 16.


A grade below 18 will be considered insufficient.
